Everyone has to escape to different surroundings from time to time. To change the scenery. To breathe in different kinds of air, to refill the batteries, and to cut the everyday routine.
If you are one of the warmth-loving people, a weekend escape to the seaside sounds perfect. Only one hour drive from Ljubljana and you reach the seaside of the Adriatic!
Slovenia only has a very little patch of the sea, but still – it’s the Mediterranean sea in all its glory. In this tiny part of the country, some of the best olive oils and wines are produced. There are huge salt pans that appear like they were taken from a fairy tale in past times. The art of producing salt has a catchy slogan : Salt is the sea that could not return to the sky.
Very poetic – I like it.
I finally found some free time to cut the busy schedule of lectures I’ve attended on the coast. It was time to head to the beach and pick one of many long piers – preferably a quiet one. I found a pier with only one fisherman catching his dinner and laid down on the warm wood.
A summer evening heat and pink-blue sky were very inviting and so I enjoyed the tranquility. Even though I could still hear the music from the nearby bars and cafes. Sometimes I closed my eyes and sometimes I looked at the dreamy water. My mind was slowly rummaging through one thought after another.
The local fisherman soon called it a night and went to cook his fish. Good call.
I had the whole pier to myself, how awesome is that?
Sadly my joy didn’t last long and a group of teenagers settled down on the pier. They will probably be here until 3 o’clock in the morning. So I called it a night too and headed further to find a more quiet spot.
Lesson learned: Find a chill-out place on the coast somewhere more remote next time!
If you wish to find a contrast to the chaotic city life, you can hop on a train, bus or take a car, it’s so easy.
Slovenian coast offers many possibilities to spend some quality time, eat delicious Mediterranean food, and taste some of the finest wines.
And you know what they say about people who live at the seaside? They live their life following the thought of dolce far niente.
Sweet doing nothing.
I have to escape to the seaside every now and then because it feels good to switch to that feeling.

Marusa,
that is the disadvantage of being so popular – your fans follow you around. Ciao Pat
Pat!!! So happy to hear from you 🙂 How’s it going up there in Ireland? Vai a Reggio ogni anno?
There are days when I dream of a little trip with some quite time to myself. Your getaway sounds — and looks — like it was a lovely adventure. Your photos are really wonderful. Glad I stopped by.
Thank you. I don’t have a professional camera, so I try my best. Quiet time is underrated these days, everybody is rushing around … not being able to stay still. 🙂
I have never been to that part of Europe, it’s still on my to-do list, and seeing such beautiful pictures as well as reading you add to the urge to go sometimes. Thanks for sharing !
Thank you. I hope you visit Slovenia soon, it’s very diverse and easy to go around. 😉
