Why I Need Balance in My Life

Like Aristotle’s theory of virtue as being a “golden mean” between the extremes of excess and deficiency, I strongly believe that balance is the most important thing in my life.

How to Achieve Balance in Your Life

Finding balance in your life is important. But how to achieve it? That’s a difficult question. And the answer will be different for everyone.

It requires hard work that’s most definitely true. Imagine that you want it all, you want it now, but you only can do one thing at a time. You can only be in one place, doing one thing at a time.

So often we forget about the important parts of our lives, be it our loved ones or our hobbies. Things that make us dance with joy and bring that spark back into our eyes. Those are the things we let slip away when life gets “too busy, too fast, too much.”

Family, work, friends, fun, nature, self-development, exercise, culture, travel. Whatever balance means for you and whatever you need in your life. Whatever makes your soul sing. Make it happen – find time for it.

I haven’t been always good at keeping a balance. I can quickly become so involved with things like computers and technology, or reading books every free minute I get, that I forget about everything else.

The fact that I can be so focused is useful sometimes, it means I can get a lot done. But at the same time, I lose the balance completely, I forget about it. I don’t spend enough time on exercise, breaks, spending time with family & friends, or just going for a wander.

Actively seek your balance. When you believe you’ve come close, stick to it. And when you notice you are starting to lose track and are neglecting one of your needs, try to step back and reassess. Realize where you are and do something about it. Get back into the balance.

    How to Feed Your Soul

In this constant rushing around I sometimes forget to nurture my soul. If I forget about feeding my soul for too long then everyday life blends into one long chore and becomes a bit dull. Humans are not created to be robots, yet I often feel like one.

So occasionally I have days where I have to remind myself to do the things that feed my soul. Usually, music and nature do the trick. I instantly feel more connected.

Whatever most nurtures your soul – just do it. It might be music, singing, sports, dancing, art, films, nature, traveling, pottery, photography…whatever makes you feel playful.

Let there be JOY. Wake up the child in you.

And so I went to see this amazing garden in London – Kew Gardens. I looked at pretty flowers, smelled the grass, had a picnic under the tree, and showed my face to the sun. I stayed there for the whole day. Now that’s a day well spent!

The Necessary Act of Letting Go

About a year ago I came to a very important realization:

People who can’t be happy for your progress and happiness are not your true friends.

Honestly, you don’t need people like that in your life. Don’t let friends whom you have trusted and shared your life to ruin this for you. Be yourself and don’t apologize for your joy. You deserve it.

If they can’t accept that you have achieved something beneficial, reached a certain milestone in your life, or simply found internal happiness, then they should not have a place in your life. And you should let them go.

Things in life change, people change.

Letting go can be healing. I try to let go of all the bad things, troubling memories, and unworthy people. As an adult I feel like this is my responsibility, I have to do this for my health.

You have a choice – choose good people, loving friends, and honesty.

So far this experience has toughened me in a sense that I try not to let these events affect me in a bad way. While this can be painful to your soul, you have to make the most out of it and learn.

Everyone is responsible for their own behavior and actions. It is not your fault, that people feel and act the way they do. You are free to live your own life however you want and surround yourself with people who are good for you.

This change has enlightened me with an incredibly satisfying feeling of freedom.
